John Shirley has made a career out of designing environments for people to live. He has always enjoyed the interaction with clients and fulfilling their dreams. Design is a collaborative process: Architect, Client, Contractor, Budgets, and the Environment. By optimizing the fulfillment of a carefully crafted program, John has gained a reputation for successful commissions.

John started his career as he completed his under graduate program at the Univeristy of Utah as an apprentice at a planning firm which emphasized on both macro and micro Urban Planning. While finishing his Masters degree, Johns’ planning experience progressed into the built environment of Architecture. His first major commission, the Red Pine Town homes in Park City, started a series of ski resort work that continues today. The Sundance Cottages, River Run, Park City Hotel, The Lodges, The Chateaux, Town Pointe, Grand Lodge, plus work at most of Utah’s ski resorts established a character grounded in resort hospitality. Custom homes have always been a passion of Mr. Shirley. He enjoys the exploration of crafting solutions in many genres from Arts and Crafts, Shingle Style, European Traditional, to Contemporary. John has gained a reputation for thoughtful stimulating solutions.

As the residential market has always been sensitive to the economy, Mr. Shirley has spent much of his energy creating more attainable products. Drawing from his experience with the larger commissions at the Ski Resorts, he now is finding satisfaction in creating higher density, mixed use solutions for the urban environment in projects such as: Chandler Pointe, Quarry Bend, The Metro, Rosecrest Village, Highland Condominiums.

There is a challenge to craft living environments that will be stimulating to occupy, affordable to obtain and consistent with green sustainable environmental goals. John loves this challenge and enjoys cultivating a learning explorative environment in the office where he can share his passion.

Member of the Urban Land Institute.
